AirAsia flight found upside down at the bottom of the sea, passengers found holding hands
Welcome to Linda Ikeji's Blog / 2 hours ago

Indonesian search officials have now confirmed they have located the fuselage of AirAsia flight 8501 on sonar radar, upside down on the sea floor, not far from where three of the bodies from the doomed AirAsia flight were found holding hands when discovered floating in the Java Sea. Officials from Basarnas, Indonesia's search and rescue agency, say the plane wreckage has been located in 24 to 30 metres of water and one of the seven confirmed recovered bodies was wearing a life jacket.

Lieutenant Airman Tri Wobowo, who was co-piloting Indonesia's C130 Herclues aircraft, was the first to discover debris from the plane and witnessed the tragic scene.

'There were seven to eight people. Three of them held hands,' he told a local newspaper.

A plane door, a blue suitcase, oxygen tank and the remnants of an emergency slide were among the objects found about 10km from where the plane was last detected on radar. But the most harrowing discoveries were the corpses floating in the Java Sea - about 100 miles off the coast - and search chiefs fully expect none of the 162 passengers and crew on board made it out of the wreckage alive.

Possible Sins of the FG

The 50 Sins Of Jonathan: Lawmakers
Set To Work Together For The
President’s Impeachment

Lawmakers spearheading the planned
impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan
have identified 50 constitutional violations by
the president, for which he should be
removed. According to Vanguard, the
violations will form part of the impeachment
notice.
More than 120 lawmakers have been reported
to have appended their signatures for the
impeachment of the president, with most of
them being members of the House of
Representatives. Indications have now
emerged that a significant number of
members of the Senate are now on the same
page with the lower house on the
impeachment issue.
Vanguard quoted a top officer in the House as
saying that both chambers have resolved to
work together on the President’s
impeachment over “incompetence, corruption
and unprecedented impunity.” The planned
removal of the president, according to him,
was to serve the common good of the
country.
Speaking further, the lawmaker told Vanguard
that the impeachment plot has nothing to do
with any party, saying lawmakers from all the
political parties represented on the National
Assembly have identified with the cause.
“I’m sure you read the reports today that
senators are going to move against Jonathan.
Now you can confirm that the impeachment
thing is not about APC. It is a non-partisan
cause. We have all resolved that the man
(President Jonathan) must go.
“Never in the history of Nigeria has a leader
displayed such crass incompetence as we
have seen in President Jonathan. It is glaring
and you can feel it. Mr. President, with due
respect, has shown that he is not capable of
running this country. That is the basic truth,”
he stated.

Is the Nigerian Police Right or Wrong by Withdrawing Tambuwal secyrity

NBA Blasts Acting IG, Calls For Immediate Restoration Of Tambuwal’s Security Details

AMINU TAMBUWAL (R) WITH NBA PRESIDENT, AUGUSTINE ALEDEH
AMINU TAMBUWAL (R) WITH NBA PRESIDENT, AUGUSTINE ALEGEH
The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to immediately restore police escort and security details to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.
The speaker’s security details were withdrawn by the Nigeria Police two days after he formally defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a statement last Thursday, confirmed that Mr. Tambuwal’s police details were redeployed because he violated the constitution by defecting to the APC.
In a statement, Mr. Ojukwu said, “In view of the recent defection by the Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, from the People Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC, and having regard to the clear provision of section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has redeployed its personnel attached to his office”.
But the NBA in a statement signed by its National President, Augustine Alegeh, strongly condemned the action of the police, saying since it (Nigeria Police) is not a court of law, it lacked the competence to determine whether or not Mr. Tambuwal violated the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
The umbrella body for lawyers’ in the country said that only the court has the exclusive reserve to determine whether Mr. Tambuwal violated any law by switching political parties.
“The Nigeria Bar Association outrightly condemns this action as it is a breach of the constitutional duty of the police to provide police escort and security detail to the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the NBA stated.
“The Rt. Honourable Aminu Tambuwal still remains the Speaker of the House of Representatives and he is entitled to the full paraphernalia of his office, including all his police escort and security detail.
“We must state that the mere fact that Rt. Honourable Aminu Tambuwal defected from one party to the other whilst being the Speaker of the House of Representatives, does not automatically strip him of his position as speaker of the House of Representatives and the attendant protection by the police”.
The statement pointed out that Mr. Tambuwal was not elected speaker by any one political party, but by a majority of members of the House of Representatives.
It, therefore, called on the acting IGP to restore the escort and security details to Mr. Tambuwal, adding that withdrawing his security aides portends great danger to the nation’s democracy.
“Our democracy must remain firmly rooted on the respect for due process and the rule of law”, the NBA maintained.

Does Messi deserve to be among the best oi

Messi among the best player in the world true

Blatter: Messi didn't deserve World Cup 2014's Golden Ball
The Swiss footballing chief said it was "incorrect" to give the Argentina forward the award in retrospect, despite his goalscoring heroics in World Cup 2014's group stage

Oct 28, 2014 17:22:41

Fifa president Sepp Blatter does not believe Lionel Messi deserved the World Cup 2014 Golden Ball award for being the best player at the tournament.

Quite a few eyebrows were raised when the Argentina forward was handed the award after his team were beaten in the final, despite having had relatively little impact compared to team-mates and opponents after the group stage - in which he had unquestionably starred.

Blatter, who has said in the past that he thought Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had deserved the accolade, slammed the award process only a few hours after Messi was named among the 23-man shortlist for the Fifa Ballon d'Or.

"I think the decision to give Messi the Golden Ball was incorrect," he told reporters at a press event in Moscow, Russia, as he inspected preparations for the next World Cup.

"I was surprised when I received the committee’s decision. They told me they had only looked at 10 of the players who took part in the final."

Messi has won the Ballon d'Or four times in his career, although in the past 18 months his stock has fallen somewhat, despite still being considered one of the greatest players in the world.

A silverware-free season in 2013-14 with Barcelona - aside from the Supercopa, which came more than 12 months ago - and a failure to skipper Argentina to World Cup glory makes a Ballon d'Or 2014 victory unlikely, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben and Neuer among the more favoured candidates.

Gov. Shettima Asks Friends, Associates To Channel Funds For 48th Birthday Adverts To Boko Haram Victims

Kashim-ShettimaGovernor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has pleaded with his friends, family members, political associates and companies dealing with the state, against sponsoring goodwill messages in newspapers, magazines and on television and radio to mark his 48th birthday.
The governor, who attained the age of 48 yesterday, in identifying with victims of the Boko Haram insurgency, circulated a message asking that money that would be used in placing such adverts should be channelled to a fund in support of the victims.
According to one of his associates, Isa Gusau, Governor Shettima decided to use the mass media to further make the appeal after seeing paid adverts in some newspapers yesterday, sponsored by some well-wishers, said to be acting in good faith, but in defiance to the governor’s appeal.
“The governor had since last week directed appointees and pleaded with friends, family members, political associates and companies dealing with Borno State, requesting them not to place any advert as they did in previous years for his 48th birthday.
“This is mainly because the governor feels celebration of any kind on his behalf for the purpose of birthday is outright insensitivity to the plight of Borno citizens, many of whom are troubled by the insurgency crisis.
“The governor was actually embarrassed yesterday (Tuesday) when he saw some advert placements congratulating him on attaining the age of 48”, Gusau said.
He continued: “He believes the message was placed by those who might not have received his initial appeal and as such decided to use the media to appeal to others that may choose to follow suit.
“Governor Shettima strongly thinks he doesn’t have the luxury of marking a birthday with all the killings of innocent citizens and destruction of communities. He however, pleaded with anyone desirous of placing adverts on his birthday to kindly channel the funds to victims of insurgency in different camps within and outside Borno or to use the funds to organise prayer sessions for the return of peace in Borno and the rest of Nigeria”, Gusau, added.

Abducted School Girls Sold To Islamist Fighters Abroad At $12 Each – Chibok Elder

A community leader in Chibok, claimed the girls abducted by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect had been sold as wives abroad.

According to Pogo Bitrus, leader of a Chibok elders group, the captured girls are being offered to Boko Haram fighters at $12 each.
Bitrus said that locals had been tracking the movements of the hostages with the help of “various sources” across the northeast.
“From the information we received yesterday from Cameroonian border towns our abducted girls were taken into Chad and Cameroon,” he said.
The girls were then sold as brides to Islamist fighters for 2,000 naira ($12) each, Bitrus added.
Meanwhile, parents of the abducted girls slammed the government on Tuesday over failure to rescue scores of schoolgirls kidnapped two weeks ago by Boko Haram Islamists.
“May God curse every one of those who have failed to free our girls,” said Enoch Mark, whose daughter and two nieces were among the more than 234 students abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in the Chibok area of northeastern Borno state.
The attack was one of the most shocking in Boko Haram’s five-year uprising, which has claimed thousands of lives across northern and central Nigeria.

PSquare Break Up – Peter Okoye Calls In Lawyer To Share Property, Moves Out Of Family House

The drama coming out of the PSquare household is getting really serious. Yesterday, Jude shared a tweet that sparked fears that all is not well with Africa’s beloved singing duo. Today, a source very close to the artiste has revealed that not only are the twins fighting, Peter Okoye wants out of P-Square and they have even gone as far as inviting a lawyer to divide their fortune. As of right now, Peter Okoye doesn’t want anything to do with P-Square. He has moved out of Squareville mansion in Omole where he lived with his brothers for years and now lives in Lekki Phase 1 with his wife Lola Omotayo and their children.
Here’s what the source, an industry person who knows what’s been going on, said:
“Yes they fought this week. Peter even left a mark on Paul’s left eye. But the fight wasn’t during rehearsal, which rehearsal? Peter has refused to do anything P-Square for weeks now. Forget that he was at his brother’s wedding, things are not good between them right now. They were even invited to perform at president Jonathan’s wedding but they didn’t go.
Peter wants out. He said Paul and Jude are sidelining him. That if they push out 200 songs, 199 would be songs Paul did. That people are now calling him a dancer in P-Square. Peter is really angry. He’s even the cool and friendly one between the brothers but he is not himself right now. And then he accused his brother Jude of disrespecting his wife. Peter and Jude haven’t spoken in weeks. Peter said Jude has been disrespecting Lola for years and he was done tolerating the BS. In fact Peter said that not only is Lola older than Jude, but that she’s also pregnant and Jude was upsetting a pregnant woman. If you notice Jude didn’t attend their wedding last year despite the fact that he was in Nigeria. Jude asked Peter why he didn’t marry Lola when their mother was alive. Jude said it’s his wife that is pushing him and they will need to pray for him. In fact nobody in the Okoye family likes Lola and they didn’t support the marriage. The brothers are really angry at each other. The police is even involved. This week, either the commissioner of police or someone from his office visited their house.
The worst part is that they have invited lawyer to come and share property o. They want to share everything. The lawyer was at their house I think on Thursday. Peter said no more P-Square joint ventures. You know they own everything together, including a house inOmole, Parkview and Atlanta. Except something is done fast P-Square is about to be finished. But I know that people have been intervening and begging them to reconsider, that they are the biggest musical duo in Africa. Nobody will benefit if they split. The power tomake money is in their togetherness.
It is Jude people are begging to keep the brothers together, but after what he tweeted yesterday, it may truly be over for P-Square. Jude has really tried for his brothers, for him to give up may mean it’s over for them. He practically put his entire life on hold for his brothers. Even sold his first car to shoot their first video but all that is about go come to an end like he tweeted. The only thing that can save the situation is if by a miracle Jude and Lola settle their differences but I don’t see that happening.

Family Of Missing Professor Seeks FG’s Intervention

It has been almost six months since renowned Professor of Nuclear Physics, James Olomo, suddenly disappeared while on a project for Mobil Oil Unlimited at Eket, Akwa Ibom State. Now, his family and the academic community has urged President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubakar, to help in the search for the professor.
Olomo, a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, was declared missing in October last year.
The family of Olomo and Otan Ayegbaju community, his home town at a joint press conference at weekend enjoined well meaning Nigerians, especially security operatives, to assist in restoring the freedom of the professor.
Speaking on the issue, President of Otan Aiyegbaju Progressive Union (OAPU), Mr. Ademola Olawale, noted that the community and Olomo’s family had made several efforts to find the missing professor but to no avail, hence the call on the federal government and the police for assistance.
He said that the community had sent representatives to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command as part of efforts to find Olomo, adding that: “The police in Akwa Ibom State are trying their best but we are of the opinion that the presidential intervention in the matter will hasten the process of finding and release of Olomo.”
“Section 14 (2B) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the oath of office of the President provide the need for the president to protect the lives of all Nigerians no matter how little or big he or she may be anywhere in the whole world.”
He therefore urged Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Godswill Akpabio of Osun and Akwa Ibom States respectively to intensify efforts in the search for the don who he described as an illustrious son of Osun State and Nigeria in general.

NUPENG
Alleging unfair labour practices and other nefarious activities by major oil marketers and multinational oil companies in Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, in Lagos threatened to stop fuel distribution and shut down the nation’s oil sector.
The activities of oil marketers and multinational companies, according to the union, amounted to economic sabotage which may lead to unrest in the sector if not checked.
NUPENG therefore called on President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Labour and the National Assembly to quickly intervene before it became too late.
“NUPENG has watched with great concern the activities of oil majors and multinationals in the industry and warns of imminent fuel scarcity if their nefarious activities are not checked by embarking on nation-wide strike without notice.

We call on Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Labour and the National Assembly to quickly intervene before the bubble bursts,” a statement by NUPENG President, Achese Igwe read.

Results Delay: Lagos Assembly Probes LASU

lasu
Lagos State House of Assembly has instructed its House Committee on Education, Science and Technology headed by Wahaab King to investigate the non- issuance of degree results by the Lagos State University, LASU, with a view to resolving it.
In a petition forwarded to the Lagos Assembly, part time students of 2005/2006 academic session from Ikorodu centre of the university, urged the lawmakers to assist them over the non-issuance of degree results by LASU management for Ikorodu campus part time students.
The letter read in part: “Students of Lagos State University, Ikorodu campus who were admitted and graduated between 2005/2006 to 2008/2009 academic session respectively hereby seek for your intervention on the refusal of the management of the institution to issue our result which had been overdue for four years ago.”
The aggrieved students said they needed the results urgently to enable them secure employment for those not yet employed or promoted in their various workplaces.
“We have taken several steps both individually and collectively to get these results but the effort proved abortive,” the petitioners said.
In a related development the House also directed the Committee of Education, Science and Technology to investigate the non-payment of outstanding 18 months salary arrears of the staff of the Lagos State Colleges of Education academic staff union.
The petitioners attached the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the state government and the union on March 22, 2013.
The union therefore sought the intervention of the House in order not to embark on industrial strike action.
The Committee was given two weeks to report back to the House with a comprehensive report.

IS NIGERIA TRULY A SOVEREIGN NATION???????

posted by: holarwaley
According to the Oxford Advanced Dictionary, it says Sovereignty is a word or term which means that when a nation or state is truly independent these nation or state as to be free from external control economically, socially and politically from any other nation and also it as to have definite territories.
The Canadian High Commission has denied media reports that a state visit being planned by President Good luck Jonathan to Canada in February has been cancelled by the Canadian government. We all know this to be a move by the Canadian government so as to allow the law made concerning bisexual marriage in Nigeria legalized even though the foreign affairs ministry tells u something different.
The recent suggestion by the EU that the law contravenes the Fundamental human right is a lie in order to get the law revoked. We as Nigerian Citizen should therefore pray and also assist the government in making sure this law as come to stay because it’s not morally right for a man to get married to a man or to a woman to get married to a man. The question of Nigeria as a sovereign entity is being questioned by the European Union.

New Automotive Policy: Nigeria Will Soon Start Exporting Cars To Other Countries – Jonathan

BecOtDLCQAA0gObPresident Goodluck Jonathan has boasted that with the recent National Automotive Industry Policy put in place by his administration, Nigeria will soon begin the exportation of cars to other countries. He also stressed that the policy must come into effect as part of federal government’s industrialization policy.
Speaking yesterday when a delegation of business community from Anambra State led by the state governor, Peter Obi visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Jonathan assured that his administration would continue to encourage industrialists in the country to grow their business.
He added that the federal government was also focusing attention and resources to the power sector because of its pivotal role in industrialization.
Noting that this has become necessary if Nigeria must reach its potentials as a great nation, he said, “If any country will be great, we must industrialize. If Nigeria must be a great country, we must industrialize. To this end, we will continue to encourage industrialists in Anambra.
“I will refer all the issues you raised to the various departments of government. We are totally committed to creating jobs. Nigeria is a country with huge population of youths. If jobs are not created, there will be crisis. The housing, agriculture and power sectors are also receiving attention. In the next few years, Nigeria will begin to export cars to other countries. We are encouraging government to support local manufacturers”.
The president assured that industrialists’ basic needs such as road, power and ports would be looked into appropriately.
Also speaking, Vice President Namadi Sambo said the president had not long ago approved $3.7 billion to improve power transmission across the country.
Speaking earlier, Governor Obi told the president that the enterprising and preserving nature of Anambra people make them well-positioned to assist him in the achievement of his administration’s transformation agenda.
Declaring the support of people of Anambra State for Jonathan, Obi said, “You have excess credit in your political account that these people (members of the delegation) are ready to pay you when you need it”, adding that he led the delegation to express their support for the President and bring to his attention some of their collective needs which if addressed, will help in anchoring the growth and development of industries in the state.
He listed some of the needs to include the completion of the 330/132/33KV power substation at Nnewi, provision of uninterrupted power supply in the Onitsha Harbour Industrial Area and Ozubulu Industrial Hub, completion of Nnamdi Azikwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi and the inclusion of Anambra State in the rail master plan.
He also pleaded with the president to assist in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of federal roads within the state such as Oba-Nnewi-Okigwe Section 1, Nnewi-Okija, start of Onitsha Second Niger Bridge, completion of the Onitsha-Enugu Dual Carriageway and completion of Umueze-Anam Kogi Roads.
Thanking the president for the inclusion of Nnewi in the National Automotive Industry Policy of the Federal Government, Obi noted that it would attract many ancillary industries especially with the coming on stream of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant in Kogi State.

Anti-Gay Law: Jonathan Was Not Scheduled To Visit Canada, Says Canadian High Commission

president-goodluck-ebele-jonathan-official_portraitThe Canadian High Commission has denied media reports that a state visit being planned by President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada in February has been cancelled by the Canadian government.
According to the reports, the cancellation was the North American country’s way of registering its strong opposition to the recent signing of the anti-gay bill into law by the federal government.
The reports also said that the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Ojo Madueke, was told to communicate news of the cancellation of the state visit to President Jonathan, which was reportedly scheduled for February 13 -14, 2014.
But when contacted, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja said that there was no visit ever scheduled for next month by President Jonathan to Canada.
“But we look forward to welcoming President Jonathan on a future date”, the High Commission said, adding that “Basically, Canada and Nigeria enjoy shared opportunities for economic, social and security cooperation”.

Oyo Orders Closure Of Schools In Iseyin LG To Forestall Religious Crisis

Oyo coat of arms
Oyo State Government yesterday ordered the closure of all public primary and secondary schools in Iseyin Local Government Area, in order to avert a religious crisis.
Schools in the state resumed for the second term Monday, according to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The state Ministry of Education had on Sunday announced that students in the area should stay away from their schools indefinitely.
The indefinite closure was said to be a preemptive strategy to prevent a clash between students of two religious faiths over mode of dressing.
According to the Chairman of the council area, Alhaji Yusuph Saheed, the directive of the government was necessary to forestall crisis in the ancient town and its environs.
